Metamorphosis
Metamorphosis
The art of metamorphosis in the concertante style...
The eighteenth century knew nothing of property rights! Better still, transcribing, adapting or orchestrating the works of others was considered a musical homage. This process of metamorphosis was astonishing, because not only did it give new life to the original work, but it also placed it in an unlimited temporal perspective: re-appropriations were infinite and adapted to the mood of the times. When Avison adapted Scarlatti's sonatas for string orchestra, he gave them a new framework by adopting the form of the Concerto grosso and a new colour. But when Rasmussen transposed Vivaldi's Four Seasons into a contemporary aesthetic universe, a whole new aesthetic space and time opened up. In short, this project invites you to listen to the Baroque repertoire in a new way, in the hope that some of the works (transformed in this way) will speak to us as much of our own time as they do of Bach's.
Augmented concert
From 7 May 2024, Metamorphosis will feature a visual counterpoint inspired by the graphic work of Jean Giraud, alias Mœbius. Drawing inspiration from the dreamlike world of the brilliant cartoonist, video artist Christophe Waksmann will project live a dozen animated plates from three of the imaginary worlds of Mœbius. The lyricism and virtuosity of Bach's concerto will be matched to Le Monde d’Arzak. The strangeness of La Faune de Mars will bring a touch of humour to Rasmussen's rewriting of theÉté de Vivaldi. Le Paradis de Dante, inspired by the engravings of Gustave Doré, will transport us to a spiritual otherworld, illuminated by the concerto Palladio by Jenkins. A visual and sound trilogy at the crossroads of the worlds of Moebius and Le Concert de l'Hostel Dieu.
