Aurélie Métivier

Viola

Aurélie Métivier studied with Jean-Philippe Vasseur at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse in Lyon, and with Florence Malgoire at the Haute École de Musique in Geneva. She holds two Masters degrees in performance, one in viola and the other specialising in historical instruments. She has also benefited from the advice of Bruno Pasquier, Gérard Caussé, Antoine Tamestit and Jutta Pucchammer. At the same time, she obtained a degree in musicology from the Université Paris IV-Sorbonne.

As a performer, she refuses to be confined by style. At ease on instruments of all periods (she studied classical and romantic orchestral techniques in Saintes from 2009 to 2011), she is interested in the repertoire of both the past and the present, whether scholarly or popular. She is a regular or guest member of ensembles of various styles and formations, ranging from chamber ensembles to symphony orchestras: Orchestre des Champs-Élysées, Ensemble SyLF, Le Concert de l'Hostel Dieu, Il Delirio Fantastico, Ensemble orchestral contemporain, Orchestre des Pays de Savoie.... She has performed under the baton of renowned conductors (Philippe Herreweghe, Gabriel Garrido, Louis Langrée, Leonardo Garcia Alarcon, David Reiland, Marc Minkowski, Hervé Niquet, etc.) and taken part in numerous festivals (Ambronay, Saintes, Avignon, Vochora, Toulouse les orgues, La Chaise-Dieu, Nuits de Fourvière, Les Arts Franchis, etc.).

Chamber music plays an important part in her musical activities. She has broadened her knowledge of chamber music with Pascal Robault, the Manfred Quartet and the Debussy Quartet. She performs regularly with the various chamber ensembles of which she is a founding member: Trio Guersan (string trio playing on period instruments), Ensemble Alla Prima (variable-geometry ensemble based on the "French quintet"), Quatuor Arta Balarta (string quartet). She is also a guest member of various ensembles.

A versatile musician, she attaches great importance to teaching. After obtaining a Diplôme d'État and a Certificat d'aptitude for viola, she is currently a teacher at the Conservatoire de Rive-de-Gier (42).
