Leçons de Ténèbres and Râga of the Night

Program: Leçons de Ténèbres by F. Couperin and South Indian râgas

Two cultures, two religions, a common poetry... Celebrating the death of Christ, François Couperin's three Leçons de Ténèbres are based on a poetic and sombre text imbued with solitude. In North and South India, night also has its musical tribute, through the râgas of darkness. This concert alternates the work of Louis XIV's composer with a râga from the traditional Indian repertoire. The melismas of the flute bansuri will alternate with the two baroque top voices, in an airy, spellbinding dialogue.
