The 17th century did not always distinguish between love for God and love for humanity. The same fervor, the same pain, and the same light permeate both sacred and secular works.
From the Venice of Barbara Strozzi to the Paris of Montéclair and Charpentier, this program brings into dialogue two ways of expressing passion: one ardent, free, and almost theatrical; the other more secretive, where emotion is revealed through the art of chiaroscuro.
Between sensuality and spirituality, voices and instruments create a space where boundaries dissolve. Here, the Baroque reveals its most modern aspect: an absolute confidence in music’s power to express the inexpressible.
