Marco Polo, diary of mirages

At the gateway to the Orient, Venice dominated Mediterranean trade in the Middle Ages. As a result of these exchanges, the lakeside city was reminiscent of certain oriental cities: the markets were souks where Arabic words mingled with Venetian, and the architecture and art were largely inspired by the East... We are evoking musically this mix by combining the Italian baroque repertoire with Persian melodies inspired by Sufi poetry. Cocteau Mot Lotov's slam provides a literary counterpoint, a rhythmic setting of excerpts from Livre des Merveilles of Marco Polo, the Venetian merchant famous for his tales of travels to the mysterious Orient...
