Choreographer<\/h4>\t\n

Choreographer Mourad Merzouki, a leading figure in the hip-hop movement since the early 1990s, situates his work at the crossroads of multiple disciplines. Alongside hip-hop dance, explored in all its styles, he incorporates circus arts, martial arts, visual arts, video, and live music. Without losing sight of the movement\u2019s roots and its social and geographical origins, this blending opens up new horizons for dance and brings forth original perspectives.<\/p>\n

His training began at the age of seven in Saint-Priest, in eastern Lyon, through the practice of martial arts and circus arts. At fifteen, his encounter with hip-hop culture led him into the world of dance. He turned to choreography and in 1989 co-founded his first company, Accrorap, with Kader Attou, Eric Mezino, and Chaouki Sa\u00efd.<\/p>\n

From 1996 to the present day, he has created 40 works whose reach continues to expand. In total, more than 2 million spectators have discovered his company\u2019s productions through 4,000 performances in France and abroad, across 65 countries. In support of hip-hop creation, he established a space dedicated to choreographic development: the P\u00f4le Pik Choreographic Center, which opened in Bron in 2009. The creation of this venue also sparked the launch of the Karavel festival, which has become a key event for hip-hop dance on the national stage.<\/p>\n

En juin 2009, le chor\u00e9graphe est nomm\u00e9 \u00e0 la direction du\u00a0Centre Chor\u00e9graphique National de Cr\u00e9teil et du Val-de-Marne<\/strong>. Il y d\u00e9veloppe un projet intitul\u00e9 \u00ab\u00a0La danse, une fen\u00eatre sur le monde\u00a0\u00bb, dont l’ouverture est le ma\u00eetre-mot. Il poursuit, \u00e0 c\u00f4t\u00e9 de la cr\u00e9ation et de la diffusion de ses spectacles, un travail de formation et de sensibilisation \u00e0 la danse hip-hop, en cr\u00e9ant des rencontres originales favorisant l’acc\u00e8s \u00e0 l’art chor\u00e9graphique et le soutien aux \u00e9quipes ind\u00e9pendantes. En 2013, il cr\u00e9\u00e9 le\u00a0festival Kalypso<\/strong>, offrant un nouvel espace de visibilit\u00e9 aux compagnies de danse hip-hop sur le territoire francilien.<\/p>\n

In March 2016, he was appointed artistic advisor to P\u00f4le en Sc\u00e8nes in Bron, a project bringing together the P\u00f4le Pik Choreographic Center and Espace Albert Camus around a shared ambition for the dissemination, training, and creation of live performance. He remains faithful to his artistic approach by building bridges between disciplines, opening up spaces, and engaging ever broader audiences.<\/p>\n

In January 2023, after 13 years at the head of the CCN of Cr\u00e9teil and Val-de-Marne, he relocated the K\u00e4fig company to eastern Lyon, in Bron and Saint-Priest, reconnecting with the area where he grew up.<\/p>\n

Mourad Merzouki has been a member of the choreographic creation support committee of the RAC \u00cele-de-France and Auvergne\u2013Rh\u00f4ne-Alpes. He also serves on the dance sponsorship committee of the Caisse des D\u00e9p\u00f4ts and is listed in Who\u2019s Who. In 2019, he was included in the Petit Larousse Illustr\u00e9.<\/p>\n
