Created in 1992 by Franck-Emmanuel Comte, "Le Concert de l'Hostel Dieu" is a flexible vocal and instrumental Ensemble, which follows three artistic lines:
- it devotes a large part of its programs to the rediscovery and the promotion of regional musical heritage from the XVIIth and XVIIth centuries in showing the link between France and Italy thanks to a strong Italian heritage in Lyons. (Le Concert de l’Hostel Dieu is the only one group in the region that plays principally this repertoire.)
- creation of interdisciplinary musical programs that points up a link between learned music and traditional music.
- original and creative presentation of masterpieces of the sacred and profane repertoire.
Based in Lyons, the "Ensemble" presents its production in a thematic musical season. The programs are then given both in the Rhone-Alpes region and somewhere else in France or in foreign countries. Since it has been created, the "’Ensemble" has given some 500 concerts and has been regularly invited by festivals such as the Festival de La Chaise-Dieu, the Ambronay Festival, the Ile de France Festival, the Palau de la Música in Barcelona, Auditorio Nacional in Madrid, the Auditorium in Dijon and the Montserrat Abbey...
Six commercial recordings, widely acclaimed by the specialised press, attest of the quality and originality of its productions. The last one Il Martirio di Sant’Orsola by Alessandro Scarlatti is part of an Italian cycle based on the manuscripts preserved in Lyons and its region. This underlines the scientific research undertaken for over a decade by Franck-Emmanuel Comte.
The new project Carolan’s Dream, more personal and original, inaugurates a new recording work around the further theme: artistic meetings between near musical worlds.
Besides the "Concert de l’Hostel Dieu" develops on the one hand a training programme for young singers trough the "Atelier Vocal" that completes the oratorio-choir. Combining training and production, the "Atelier Vocal" aims at the promotion of young professional singers through three programmes per year. On the other hand, each academic year, specific educational activities are proposed to partner-secondary-schools.
Le Concert de l’Hostel Dieu also spend time to sensitise people to baroque music thanks to various actions and last but not least, in partnership with the Edition company “Les Abesses” it published unreleased partitions.
The "Concert de l'Hostel Dieu" is supported by the Ministry of Culture and Communication (DRAC Rhône-Alpes), the town of Lyons, the Rhône-Alpes regional council.
It’s a member of the Federation for the specialized instrumental and vocal Ensemble (FEVIS).
