Locura
Locura
A hip-hop, concertante and dance baroque madness
The new creation by the Concert de l’Hostel Dieu in collaboration with Compagnie Käfig
In 2017 Mourad Merzouki created Folia at the Nuits de Fourvière festival, in collaboration with Franck-Emmanuel ComteA huge international success, this baroque hip-hop ballet captivated more than 100,000 spectators on stages across Europe.
Today, the two artists are extending their collaboration with Locuraa new creation that explores and deepens this unique dialogue between baroque music and hip-hop dance. The performance continues their shared work, unfolding a distinctive visual and sonic poetry, a wide range of powerful emotions, and a genuine artistic and human connection between the dancers of compagnie Käfig and the musicians of the Concert de l’Hostel Dieu.
Conceived as an “augmented concert,” Locura draws on a fusion of baroque arias and Mediterranean popular music, by turns spellbinding, lively, and expressive. Tarantellas and virtuosic folias become variations on the theme of madness, seen here as a disruptive force that shakes up and colors our lives.
Taking ownership of this original musical material, each performer (lyric singer, instrumentalists, and dancers) plays with fluidity and playfulness on the contrasts and richness of these timeless and universal forms of music.
